Made from extremely spalted hard maple. Spalting occurs when fungus begins to attack the wood and is fended off in defense, resulting in the black lines. The highly sporadic wood grain is also a result of varying early stage rot (purely cosmetic, the bowl is still extremely hard and strong). The bowl was also turned while semi-wet and then air dried, resulting in a slightly natural and uneven form. All in all, this is a beautiful large bowl with a ton of character.

Finished with natural, non-VOC, hard wax linseed oil.

Note: this bowl has small open pores so I would advise against using this as a salad bowl or for uses with liquid (it will be harder to clean).
